Young and Invincibles

Young and Invincibles

Over the past few years, there has been a great deal of discussion and debate regarding healthcare reform. The good news is that millions of Americans who previously did not have access to good qualify health insurance can now obtain the coverage that they need in order to make care more affordable for them and their families.

What does this mean to you?

Even if you’re currently young and in excellent health, you should probably think twice before passing up the opportunity to obtain guaranteed health insurance coverage.

Why You – Why Now?

It’s understandable that applying for health insurance may not be the first thing on your mind. Work, family, and other pressing priorities typically take the top spots, leaving time for little else – especially that of reading the “small print” on an insurance application.

But take just a moment and ask yourself this question. If you had to come up with $10,000 by next week, could you do it? If so, how?

The truth is, even just a minor trip to the emergency room for a broken arm or fractured rib can cost far more than that. And these are situations that can happen to anyone – even someone who is young, active, healthy, and seemingly invincible.

Why Consider Coverage Now?

Passage of the Affordable Care Act means that there are a number of benefits available – even to those who are young and healthy, and who may think that health insurance isn’t necessarily important at this time.

Given the many benefits of applying for healthcare coverage, there are a number of reasons to consider applying for coverage sooner rather than later. Some of the key reasons include:

  • Prevention of Debt – Unexpected medical costs are one of the most common reasons for people going into debt today. In fact, more people are filing medical bankruptcy than ever before. Joining a parent’s health insurance plan is a great way to obtain coverage – and by extending coverage until age 26, millions of Americans will now be able to afford good quality health insurance. Think about it this way, how long would it take you to pay off a debt of $5,000 or more. What about $10,000? A small insurance premium every month is much easier to handle than a hospital bill for $10,000 or $20,000 or more.
  • Responsibility – Whether you’re still living at home with your parents or starting a family of your own, getting covered and taking responsibility for your own good health – as well as the financial aspect that goes along with it – is just simply the right thing to do.
  • Quality of Life – Having healthcare coverage will allow you to live a much better quality of life, too. No more putting off going to the doctor when you’re sick. Having access to good medical care can improve the quality of your life substantially. And, when you have coverage, you’ll have access to the care, the medication, and the resources that you need to get well – and stay well – for longer.
  • Just in Case – At this exact moment, you may be young and healthy. But unfortunately, that could change in an instant. Accidents and unexpected illnesses happen all the time – and they have no bearing on age – or even your current health today. That’s why you should always be prepared for the unknown. Otherwise, even just a minor accident could lead to long-term financial complications – or even to bankruptcy.

Find Out What Coverage You Qualify For

Even if you were previously uninsured or could not afford health insurance coverage in the past, passage of the Affordable Care Act means that you can now have access to an affordable, quality health insurance policy.

In order to do so, though, it is important that you apply for your coverage before the enrollment period is over. Otherwise, it could be too late.
